Find out more about Our HeARTS Will Go On, a multimedia project exploring the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on the UK theatre industry, and how it came to life from the curator herself, Jeamy Navarro-Schrank .
The idea for this multimedia project was planted within the first week of the UK's first national lockdown when what was meant to be a birthday spent watching Wicked the Musical in London, a slight tradition for birthdays in my family, turned into a day spent at home.
The idea only strengthened when I witnessed the arts bring joy during the bleakness of the months in lockdown. Whether through actors doing virtual table reads or people performing Shakespeare out of windows, it really felt as if the arts brought us together during this weird and difficult time.
And though the arts gave us hope that we could get through these tough times, the situation seemed bleak for them. I witnessed the anger felt by the community about the supposed lack of support from the government, and through trending Twitter hashtags like #FatimasNextJob, #SaveTheArts and #TheShowMustGoOn, I felt their despair at their situation.
Our HeARTS Will Go On explores the theatre industry during the Covid-19 pandemic and really focuses on individuals and small, local companies and their journeys during this tough time, as they were the ones that seemingly received the least support. By the end of this project I hope to understand the extent of the impact local theatre has on the communities around them during this pandemic as well as portray the achievements and struggles they go through to try and keep audiences and the public entertained during this time.
Enjoy.
